Tell us about yourself?
Bilal: I was born in Karachi and studied nearby hometown, where I met my fellow co-founder Talal Ejaz and Talal Zaman Abbasi. I was inspired to become an agripreneur by a family who has been involved in agriculture for the past decade.
We friends made the decision to enter Pakistan’s untapped agriculture market when we were studying software engineering. Thus, we introduced Sabzland (Reinventing Agriculture).
Establishing a farmer-centric digital value chain to boost value creation and retention in the world’s fifth most populous nation. Passionate about using cutting-edge technology to improve society. The task has been centered on identifying issues and coming up with solutions as effectively as feasible.
If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Growing as a community or business is great, but there is always room for innovation and improvement, both as an individual and as a company.
Therefore, I believe the best advice would be to listen to your colleagues’ opinions more, believe in yourself, and never be afraid to speak your mind. while collaborating to solve issues.
What problem does your business solve?
The current agriculture industry is exceptionally inefficient and unrewarding for its main stakeholders which are farmers and vendors that sell and consume fresh produce.
These inefficiencies result in significant food wastage, and price inflation, and therefore consumers spend almost 33% of their income on food.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
Sabzland aims to address inefficiencies in the agriculture supply chain by linking farmers with companies (& eventually customers) and assisting them in selling fresh food to customers via its tech-enabled platform.
This is being carried out by Sabzland through the use of a controlled commerce platform, where we ensure the quality of the produce by examining and screening it.
What is your magic sauce?
The goal of Sabzland is to alter the agricultural system through the creation of an efficient supply chain, commerce and digital lending between farmers and companies to effectively determine the price of farmers’ product, which will empower local farmers, vendors, and ultimately consumers.
By eliminating present inefficiencies and waste, the platform that Sabzland offers opens up potential for all stakeholders—farmers, companies, and consumers.
What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?
The agriculture sector and its supply chain alone provide a 70 billion dollar opportunity in Pakistan. Over the next five years, it is expected to grow at a 10% annual rate, representing nearly 12.5 trillion dollars globally.
By tackling the aforementioned problems in this business, Sabzland will liberate savings, create a producer-consumer focused platform, and create opportunities for all market players.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
The largest difficulty has been integrating new technologies into a sector that was steadfastly wedded to its traditional practices.
We wanted to use this internet platform to shift people’s perspectives. Currently, we have numerous farmers who are registered and who annually generate tones of agricultural products.
